• Parasites are independent new species after speciation.

• There are four event types:

  • cospeciation,
  • duplication,
  • lineage sorting,
  • and host switching.

We treat the parasites as independent throughout; they do not interact with each other in any way after speciating, and indeed are considered as different species (in the current model) if they are on different hosts.
